I'll start with the negatives. The 800 is in a rough part of town, at least that's the appearance, anyway. we've been here for almost a year now, (and we will probably renew our lease) and so far so good, we have not had anything untoward happen to us. there are the occasional vagrants and indigents around broadway and in the library, but they mainly keep to themselves. that said though, i would not feel safe going for a run in this area or just walking late at night. the building has seen better days. i've heard stories that when they built this place, it was something to talk about, but now, the outside looks very dated. we know friends living in the hurstbourne apartments, and well, the condition of their place is much better. and the positives. this apartment is quite secure. there is a card entry for the front door which is manned by a security guard seven days a week. the elevators are also card entry, and the parking garage is also secured by card entry. the only issue we have with the security is that on some mornings we find that the garage doors are open - presumably from someone who walked out the care entrance. the upkeep of the building is very good. there is always someone cleaning the lobby every morning. the halls are vacuumed at least twice a week (or even more). they are trying to maintain this building at all times. the current management have retained a good group of workers who are always doing grounds maintenance outside, or remodelling apartments inside. the maintenance is efficient and motivated. we had as issue with the heater once, and they came immediately to fix it. the sink was clogged last week and that was fixed within an hour. i think there are other apartments with more issues, but i think that they do a good job with those too. the management is agreeable. i understand that they want to keep us, but at the same time i believe that they are genuinely trying their best to live up to their responsibility as landlords. i've read some of the reviews on this site, and i think i think that for the most part, we feel that we are in a good place. ok so it's not on bardstown road, and the layout of the apartments are not the best, but reading the reviews of one of the aparments on bardstown road, i'm glad we have free heat and water, and garbage. our highest heating bill this past winter was $23 (the large sliding door are drafty). |
