Apartment Review
Fooled the community by keeping up the outside . .

But they are not maintaining the interior. The ads are deceptive. They might be low income but they are not low rent and they raised my rent $40 the first year (a non-inflation year according to social security). Their National Historic Register claim deceptively leads people to assume a willingness to maintain but nothing could be farther from the truth. Instead, they use, "these are old buildings" as an excuse for everything that is wrong, and that they determine "not worth it to me" to fix. (Direct quote from Beacon rep.) In 18 months, they still have not completed work they promised before I moved in - much less what I've reported since then. Can't recall a time they met their advertised 24-hour turn around on any maintenance request (including water coming through ceiling and no hot water). Plumbing above me leaks into my apartment, plaster breaking off wall as result. Heat system inefficient and expensive. Parking not assigned, lots not cleared when it snows. Appearance good from the neighborhood but paint chipping and holes in ground if you come on the grounds and look closely. The interior of my unit has cracked plaster, sloppy paint job, hardwood two different colors in on room, hole in floor under carpet, smells musty from leaks and nasty from rodents that live under my floor . . . The apartment above me has turned over five times in 18 months, with 6 months of construction day and night. The noise level with ten people (or even three toddlers) on hardwood floors overhead, the furnace in the middle of the living room, and an outside door inches from my front door slamming thirty-forty times a day is frustrating. Cable-ready means there is a cable cord in the closet that you can pull out and use on the wall beside the closet - with one outlet available for internet, television, and telephone. If you use their guy, he will run across rooms, through walls, and across closet doors to provide service to other areas but it won't look nice and service won't be good anyway because they haven't updated cable to accommodate HD update and won't allow cable company to do the work. Updating does not include anything like a dishwasher, garbage disposal, light fixtures from recent decades . . . I think that might mean we have indoor bathrooms and electricity. For some reason, my reviews keep disappearing.
